Take a free ACT practice test and get tips for improvement
An opportunity for a free ACT practice test and advice on improvement is coming to Elkhart Public Library.
Beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9 at the downtown library, a limited number of practice ACT tests will be administered by Sylvan Learning Center tutors.
According to librarian Allison McLean, this is a chance for high school students to start thinking about college admissions and preparing for the tests that many will take.

“Preparing students for academic success is part of the library’s mission,” she said. “We hope to be a resource for students, especially those where they might be the first in their family to think about going to college.”
Taking the test in an environment designed to simulate the actual test will help students know what to expect and going over their results with a tutor will give them strategies for improving scores, McLean said.
Then they are invited to make an appointment with Sylvan to get their results and receive tips to improve their scores.
“We modeled the partnership with Sylvan Learning on a program that has been successful at the Mishawaka Penn-Harris-Madison Library,” she said.
Prep courses for these tests can cost hundreds of dollars, but with book resources in the EPL collection, as well as the practice test and strategies, this is a chance to get help for no cost.
Space is limited so register now.
