Journey to 1,000 books: We’re going streaking!
Editor’s note: This is the fourth part in a series documenting one parent’s approach to 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten.
The calendar has turned and suddenly we’re in the month of Holly’s second birthday.
I can hardly believe it myself, but with all the craziness in the world time has been lost.
As far as our journey on 1,000 Books before Kindergarten though, that is also just flying by, we’re halfway there and still going strong.
We spent the early part of the holiday season traveling. First to the St. Louis area and then to Arizona.
Traveling with a toddler is always an adventure and it’s hard to take a lot of books with you.
Luckily, my brother’s family has two kids of their own so there were plenty of books to read at Thanksgiving and then in Arizona, my in-laws had a small collection of books, which we added to while we were out there.
Of course, Elkhart Public Library offers a vacation loan period if you’re taking an extended vacation, but we were only gone for a week, so that wasn’t necessary.
We have, however, built a fantastic streak on Beanstack.
The fact that Beanstack gives me the stats on not only how many books we’ve read, but, if you choose, pages, reading sessions and minutes read. But to me, the streak is great.
Beanstack shows you how long your streak of consecutive days reading is, as well as your longest ever streak. Holly is currently on a 72 day streak (and counting).
It helps me stay motivated to log each day’s books because I like seeing the streak get longer and longer and I know we’re reading every day.
Since we’ve added books over the holidays and while traveling, we’re up to 173 different books.
With this prolific reading, we’ll probably finish the 1,000 books by the spring.
