How to read graphic novels, comics and manga with your library card

Graphic novels, comics and manga are popular ways for all ages to read and engage with stories.

Elkhart Public Library makes it easy to read these types of books with physical copies and exciting options to find them on e-readers or mobile devices through our Digital Library.

Libby has thousands of comics and graphic novels for kids, teens and adults. To access them, a library card and PIN is needed to log into the app and start borrowing. Since EPL is in the Indiana Digital Library program, there are more copies of popular titles available to users. Holds can be placed and the app sends a notification when the item is available.

Hoopla also has a large collection of comics and graphic novels for all ages, including their newly added manga collection. Hoopla also has an app and requires an EPL library card. An account is easy to set up with an email address and password needed before items are checked out. Holds are not necessary in Hoopla, although users have a predetermined number of checkouts each month.  That number resets at the beginning of the next month. Many different publishers have content available, including Marvel, DC, Dark Horse Comics, Image Comics, Tokyo Pop, Scholastic, Disney Book Group.

Comics Plus has collections for adults, teens and kids. It is available by app, or by accessing EPL’s Digital Library. No worries about holds, all titles are available on demand. Some publishers with content in Comics Plus are Dark Horse Comics, Image Comics, Tokyo Pop, Manga Classics, Lucha Comics, and Asylum Press.
