Elkhart Community

Elkhart, Indiana is located in north central Indiana, part of an area called Michiana. It is about 6 miles south of the Michigan border and has two exits off the Toll Road (I-80/90). It is located about 112 miles from Chicago, IL, 124 miles from Indianapolis, IN and 10 miles north of the county seat, Goshen.

Elkhart County has its urban areas, surrounded by more rural and agricultural sections. The county has a current population of approximately 197,559. The City of Elkhart has a population of 50,949. The area is known for manufacturing, particularly of recreational vehicles. In fact the RV/MH Hall of Fame is in Elkhart County, right off the Toll Road at exit 96.

The Elkhart County community also offers a wide range of recreational, cultural attractions, which include connecting bike and pedestrian facilities, parks, and the County fair is the second largest in attendance in the nation! Some of the main attractions are the Elkhart Jazz Festival, shows at the Lerner Theatre, the Riverwalk, or one of the many parks.

While the majority of major colleges and vocational schools are located in nearby communities, Elkhart does boast campuses for Indiana University South Bend, Ivy Tech, Harrison College and Indiana Tech. Goshen College is located in Goshen and Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminaries in Elkhart.
