Join the Friends of the Elkhart Public Library for their Annual Meeting at the Elkhart County Historical Museum on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at 6:30 pm. The Museum will host a presentation and book signing by James H. Madison, author of HOOSIERS: A NEW HISTORY OF INDIANA (available for checkout at EPL).
As we celebrate Indiana’s Bicentennial, James H. Madison, Professor Emeritus of History at Indiana University, will present an overview of Indiana’s past, from Hoosier pioneers through the Civil War to the 21st century. His illustrated talk will highlight connections between past and present and help us think about our future.
Keynote speaker James H. Madison is a renowned historian and author whose most recent book, HOOSIERS: A NEW HISTORY OF INDIANA (Indiana University Press, 2014), has been described by fellow historians as ‘the best one-volume history of the state’ as well as a ‘compelling’ and ‘user-friendly’ narrative that ‘every Hoosier should want to read.’ [The program] invites a wide variety of people from our respective constituencies to come together to consider and celebrate Indiana’s rich history. –EPL Director Lisa Guedea Carreño
The event starts at 6:00 pm with the Friends Annual Meeting, followed by the presentation at 6:30 pm, with a book signing afterward. HOOSIERS will be available for purchase at the event. You can also become a Friends member at the meeting for a chance to win a copy of HOOSIERS. The event is free and open to the public!
