Preparing your income taxes may never be fun, but we hope the resources available at the Elkhart Public Library will help to make it a bit less stressful.

Forms & Publications
The Elkhart Public Library will continue to make paper tax forms available – to the extent that the IRS and the Indiana Dept. of Revenue make them available to us. As both organizations continue to promote online filing, they send fewer forms every year. The IRS has supplied us with a limited selection of federal forms, including a relatively small supply of 1040, 1040A, and 1040EZ forms. Unfortunately, they are not sending the booklets this year.
If we do not have the paper forms you need, they can be accessed at any EPL location, and printed for 15¢ a page. The Main Library has a tax form print station located near the Information Desk. Forms & publications can also be accessed on other computers in the Main Library and at all of the branches.
We have many “paper-and-ink” resources, too! Check our Reference and Nonfiction collections for books covering a wide variety of tax-related topics. J.K. LASSER’S YOUR INCOME TAXES is available at all EPL Locations. It is a comprehensive and comprehensible guide to tax preparation.
Volunteers from United Way’s VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program will have scheduled hours at the Main Library to assist in free tax preparation and e-filing.
- Mondays • 12:00-5:30 pm • January 26 – April 6
- Wednesdays • 2:00-7:30 pm • January 21 – April 8
- Saturdays • 9:30 am-12:30 pm • January 24 – April 11
Appointments are booked through United Way. You can schedule an appointment by calling 211 or online at United Way’s VITA web page: uwsjc.org/vita. The site can be accessed under Featured Links on the EPL website. The site is accessible from any Online Resource or Library catalog computer at any EPL location. No card needed.
