EPL Staff Reads: August/September 2014

The Books We are Reading and Listening to

As late summer eased into fall, Elkhart Public Library staff members were enjoying an eclectic selection of books and audiobooks.

I recently finished THE GIVER series by Lois Lowry and the UNWIND trilogy by Neal Shusterman. Both are YA dystopian series with very good plotlines. If you liked THE HUNGER GAMES by Suzanne Collins or DIVERGENT by Veronica Roth, you might want to give them a try. ~Sue, Dunlap Branch

DEATH OF INNOCENCEDeath of innocence by Mamie Till-Mobley (364.134 T574) • I had heard about the murder of Emmett Till, but didn’t know all the details. This is a story of a mother’s love for her only child and their amazing relationship. It is a chilling account of the murder of an innocent boy who had gone down south to visit relatives for a few weeks and never came back. Mamie made sure that her son’s murder was not swept under the rug, as so many others of this type had been. Mamie rose from the devastation of loss to become an educator, encouraging youth to be all they could be, and a positive voice for African Americans. ~Erika, Newspapers & Magazines
